Pip's benefactor definitely wasn't Miss Havisham. Were any of you surprised? The convict, Magwitch, is such an interesting character to choose as Pip's benefactor. I find that this twist gave new life (and conflict) to the story. Magwitch is such a meaty character. His past life, his escape, the money he earned to make Pip a gentleman, his need for disguise.

Magwitch is such a great example of how far a kind deed can go. After the kindness Pip showed him this man spent years of his life working and saving money to send to Pip to not only repay him for a kindness done, but advance him in the world. He risks everything to help Pip. After all the bad things he's done in his life, I believe the things he does for Pip shows what a good person Magwitch really is at heart. Oh, that all of us could have and be such people.
ReplyDeleteThis goes to show that everyone deserves kindness and respect. We cannot judge another person without having walked a mile in their shoes.
